Understanding Rush F.A.Qs What kind of brotherhood does Alpha Psi Rho have? - We are a small group (about 15 members at any given time), with a close bond and hang out together all the time. What kind of people should I expect to meet? - You will meet ALL types of people throughout your membership in Alpha Psi Rho. You will meet many guys and girls that could later become that hookup you need to help you along your schooling or career. What type of people are in your fraternity? - We have all types of different ethnicities, cultures, majors, skills, and hobbies in our fraternity. We do not discriminate against any individual for whatever reason. What type of activities is Alpha Psi Rho involved in? - We stay involved by participating in events to help the community, the school, and our organization. We participate in events such as: fundraisers, community service, volunteer work, sporting events, and definitely fun social events! Every year, we go camping, Las Vegas, snowboarding, BBQ picnics, and formal dinners just to name a few! How will being in a fraternity benefit me? - It's all about connections and networking. You're getting out of the house meeting new people constantly and giving back to the community. At the same time, you'll also be having fun meeting new friends and even OLD FRIENDS (it's a small world). Your new brotherhood can be whatever you want it to be. We're here to look out for you and aid you along throughout your schooling, career, and anything else in life. In short, we take your personal, professional, and academic experience to a whole new level! Are all fraternities the same? - Absolutely not. Fraternities are governed by different organizations and different groups of people and associate with a variety of themes. Some fraternities are heavily involved in business or sports, while others may cater to a small subculture such as being gay-friendly. More importantly, many fraternities are focussed only on building massive members to gain helpful funds or and power in numbers therefore are not as close-knit as we are. Alpha Psi Rho is different because we are very close and every member knows each other without awkward cliques and conflicting sub-groups. What is Alpha Psi Rho all about? - Alpha Psi Rho is all about BROTHERHOOD, ACADEMICS, PROSPERITY, and STRENGTH! We are NOT about being cocky, having too much pride, being noisy, or disrespecting ANYONE. We behave like gentlemen at all times. Everything that we do embodies the 4 beliefs as they are what we stand for. Again, there's friends, and there there's BROTHERS. Before I join, what do I need to know? - Joining a fraternity carries certain responsibilities. Make sure you know all of the obligations that are required. Furthermore, you should understand all aspects of membership that are required for initiation into a chapter. As a new member...a rushee becomes a new member when he accepts a bid to become a member. Pledgeship is an educational period during which a new member is prepared for the future active membership. The length of the new member period varies. During this time the new members are involved in a variety of activities, all designed to enable the new members to become a part of the brotherhood. Once you become an initiated member, you are ineligible for membership in any other fraternity. Pledging is a time to learn about college, about your chapter, and ESPECIALLY yourself. During the new member period, you will become acquainted with your chapter's history, its goals, and your key to its future. As each new member brings new life into the chapter, each chapter will bring something new into the life of each of you who pledge. I want to become a member of Alpha Psi Rho, but I'm not an Asian/Pacific Islander. - Although we as an Asian Pacific Islander based fraternity, our membership is open to all. We believe that diversity strengthens an organization in all aspects. Everyone is unique in their own way and can contribute one way or another ignoring nationality. Do I have to pay for rush? - All events during rush are absolutely free. Transportation to and from rush events is also available. If I go to rush, do I have to join? - Absolutely not! Rush is a time when there are no obligations whatsoever. It is an opportunity for you to see if this might be something you are interested in. Do you haze? - No, that is illegal.
